FOR THE POSITION OF INSIDE WIREMAN APPRENTICE

Notice of Apprenticeship Opportunity

The Charleston Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee will accept apprenticeship applications from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM the 3rdThursday each month.  Applications will be accepted at the Charleston JATC Bldg. located at 810 Indiana Ave. Charleston, WV  25302

The application must be filled out at the JATC office.

To meet minimum qualifications for application to the apprenticeship an applicant must:

  1. be a minimum of 17 years of age.
  2. provide proof of high school graduation Diploma, or have a GED, or have a two-year Associate Degree or higher.
  3. show evidence of successful completion of:  One full year of high school algebra with a passing grade, or one post high school algebra course with a passing grade. (If an applicant does not have a passing grade in an accredited one year algebra class they may contact the local board of education to enroll in an evening adult algebra class, or enroll in an accredited online course such as the following) http://www.njatc.utk.edu/techmath.htm
  4. provide an official transcript of high school and post high school education and training.  All GED records must be submitted if applicable.
  5. submit a DD-214 to verify military training and/or experience if they are a veteran and wish to receive consideration for such training/experience.
  6. qualify for interview using the electrical trade’s aptitude test developed and validated by the American Institutes for Research. Information about preparing for the aptitude test can be found athttp://www.electricprep.comThis test will only be administered at the JATC Office once each year in the spring prior to interviews.
  7. present evidence that they possess a valid driver’s license.
  8. Prior to being indentured, applicants selected from the pool of interviewed applicants will be at least 18 years of age.
  9. Individuals who can verify (proper documentation required) that they have worked a minimum of four thousand (4000) hours specifically in the electrical construction trade, do not need to meet the requirements of items (b) and (c).
  10. At time of Application, there is an application fee of $20.00

Each applicant must provide the materials listed from A thru J at the time they come in to fill out an application.

The recruitment, selection, employment and training of apprentices during their apprenticeship, shall be without discrimination because of race, color, religion, national origin, sex or age–except the applicant must be at least 17 years of age to apply and 18 years of age at time of indenture.  The JATC does not, and will not, discriminate against a qualified individual with a disability because of the disability of such individual.  The sponsor will take affirmative action to provide equal opportunity in apprenticeship and will operate the apprenticeship program as required under applicable law and lawful regulations issued thereunder.

Applicants, who meet all basic requirements and are a resident of one of the counties listed below, will be interviewed by the JATC.  Apprentices will be selected in order of their ranking.

JURISDICTION:  In Zone 1 (Charleston area) Boone,   Braxton, Calhoun, Clay, Fayette, Gilmer, Kanawha, Nicholas, Putnam, Raleigh, Roane, Summers, Webster and Wyoming Counties.

In Zone 2  (Bluefield/Princeton area) the counties of Monroe, McDowell, Mercer and Greenbrier and in VA they are Bland, Buchanan, Carroll, Giles, Grayson, Smyth, Tazewell and Wythe Counties.
